Moe Francouer, George Grieder, Kevin Grey and Andy Garcia had the task of dewatering the B35 Barge. This barge weighs 250 tons, is 200’ long, 50’wide and 11’ high. The barge was used in Stewardson and Tofino as a heli landing barge where the S61s could land the logs. To beach the barge it took the effort of the 980F Wheel Loader, the 270 Hitachi, and the GY3 which had been sitting at Toquart for the past 5 years. As you can see Rob Hill succeeded to get the GY3 running. With innovative rigging, Moe managed to get the barge 60% above high tide

December is the Christmas / New Year month and many of us spend this month preparing for the holidays. It is also the time we look back over the year to gauge whether it has been successful year or not. We used to measure success by dollars earned, now, I think, it is measured by how many consistent months of employment we have created. In CFP the head count of employees has been reduced over the years but has been a product of the market place. If you can’t sell the lumber why make it. 2011, however, was an upbeat year. The larger timber holders kicked it into high gear and set some very aggressive production targets. As in past years there was a balance created by log export. We produce more logs than we sell lumber. CFP managed to match species and volume with CML's lumber sales. CML has been very successful at custom cutting hembal and has a very strong cedar market position.
China was the high and low of the market this year. They participated very aggressively early in the year which drove prices up on the hembal standard and pulp. China also disappeared in the last quarter, causing a lot of stress. 2012 anticipated market is going to be very similar. We are developing as much cedar as possible and will defer hembal until at least the 2nd quarter.
We are heavy into heli in Toquart next year and Cataract will come on line as well. Monthly production levels will remain low as we try to stretch inventories as far as we can.
I would like to thank the crews that have made 2011 work and hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I would like to announce a shut down for Christmas, but we need to finish Matliset. We will take some time off when we are off that darn hill. All the Best!
