Message from the CEO

THIS IS OUR 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

I can tell you with great certainty that both my mother, May, and father, Cliff, would be very proud of what we have all accomplished over the last 50 years.  Mom and Dad lived through the Depression and World War II.  This set the foundation on how they would live their lives and build the company- - - with Hard Work.

I know that this tradition lives today based on the commitment of our employees and, for that, I very much appreciate your dedication, thank you.

For me, it is a privilege to lead our Group of Companies with your loyalty and continued hard effort.  Because of our continued success, we are all able to share with the less fortunate at this time through Christmas donations.

On behalf of the Coulson Group, we will continue our support to the Bread of Life and the Salvation Army where our monies will be targeted to help families with children.

We can all take pride in the fact that we are contributing to assist the less fortunate in our community.

On behalf of the entire Coulson family and management team we wish you and your family a safe holiday season and prosperous 2011.

2010 MISTIC Science, Technology & Innovation Award

O

n Wednesday, November 3rd, Coulson Aircrane Ltd. received the 2010 MISTIC Science, Technology & Innovation Award.  Presenting the award to Wayne is Bob Drinkwater, a sponsor of the Mid-Island Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC).

Aircrane was nominated for this award by Pat Deakin, Economic Development Officer, for the City of Port Alberni.  In his submission, he stated:

Coulson Aircrane has transformed one of the much beloved icons of the Alberni Valley, the Martin Mars water bomber, from an aircraft destined to be a museum piece into the most advanced forest fire-fighting and urban interface/structure protection technology in the world and had it adopted as an international media darling along the way.  Another vital component of the technological approach has been the modification of a Sikorsky S76B helicopter into the ‘Firewatch 76 Command and Control Centre’.

In 2009, the Coulson Group installed a Garmin EFIS Glass cockpit system in the Hawaii Mars.  The system consists of two Primary Flight Displays and two Multi Function Displays.  The PFD screens show aircraft details and Synthetic Vision while the MFD screens display GPS, Terrain Avoidance, Traffic Collision Avoidance and XM Weather data.

The FireWatch 76 has been outfitted with the latest High Definition colour and Infrared Stabilized Camera.  The IR camera has been modified with a second, higher temperature mode specifically for fire use.  Aircrane also installed in the S76 two HD Digital Video Recorders that record HD and IR simultaneously for the duration of the flight.  Firewatch has the ability to stream real time video and rebroadcast I on the Internet, as well as downlink hot spot information, shape files and screen shots via standard email.  Other innovations include a Laser Pointer to highlight targets for night operations and an Autotracker for filming Air Tanker drop effectiveness missions.
