I

n the Coulson Administrative offices, we are again being challenged to work outside our comfort zones.  We have cut back our open office hours – the office is now open from 9am to 3pm.  Many of the administrative staff have had their hours of work adjusted – some as much as 50%.  And, most unfortunately, we have severed two long-time employees – Roanna Bennie and Vesna Dorn.  We are now trying to figure out what the new norm will be.   This is the challenge that we are all currently facing.

In order to overcome the challenge of change, we need to come back to some basics such as:

  1. communicate when our workload becomes a worry.
  2. have patience with fellow staff members who are feeling overwhelmed because of new workloads,
  3. and finally, remember that as a cohesive, caring team we will overcome.

I think it is time we all remember our Coulson Corporate Culture, as defined by the foundation set by Cliff Coulson and supported by our Core beliefs and Mission Statements….

  • The Foundation
    • Loyalty
    • Hard Work
    • Respect
  • Core Beliefs
    • Leadership
      • The Boss drives his men; the Leader coaches them.
      • The Boss depends on authority; the Leader inspires enthusiasm.
      • The Boss fixes the blame for breakdowns; the Leader fixes the breakdowns.
    • Winning
      • Enthusiasm, motivation, and persistence are the greatest assets in the world.  They beat money, power and influence.
    • Success
      • No success is ever achieved without failure, so use failure as stepping stones instead of stumbling blocks.
  • The Employee’s Mission
    • Our mission is to create a safe and respectful workplace where our team can work to achieve Company goals through loyalty, honesty and flexibility.
  • The Manager’s Mission
    • To manage with a philosophy of “Respect”, creating a team of like-minded people who believe in what they do and work better as a result.

I found the following comment attributed to Helen Keller appropriate.

“The richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome.”
