  1. EMS Reports 2009 and to March 15 2010(YTD)

I have reviewed the Management System (EMS) reports for the Coulson Group of Companies to March 15, 2010, and I can say that our program continues to be on track. All divisions are reporting both training and inspection reports on a regular basis.
The following summary of EMS Reports for 2009 and 2010 (YTD)

  1. ISO 14001 EMS Audits 2010

Our EMS annual surveillance audit for Manufacturing operations at Coulson Manufacturing was conducted by QMI-SAI Global at CML during February 2010. The auditor’s report found that everything was in conformance to the ISO Standard and our Certificate of Registration has been confirmed as being in good standing for 2010 - 2011.

Congratulations and Good Work to John and Mill Crew for keeping our EMS to a high standard

The internal audits for Aviation and Timberland divisions have been completed and both operations are ready for their respective audits. The Aviation division’s audit is an annual surveillance audit while Timberlands is a re-registration audit. Ron Sorensen and I will be assisting the managers with these audits

  1. 2010 Storm Water Sampling

Coulson Manufacturing - Storm water samples taken at the mill during a January 2010 storm event from the main storm water discharge pipe that drains the mill lumber storage yard shows that the anti sap-stain residue from treated lumber is well under the standards set out under the Ant Sap-stain Regulations for B.C.
Coulson Flying Tankers – Samples of storm water drainage at the Flying Tankers Sproat Lake petroleum tank farm and fuel dispensing site were taken during December and January major storm events. The samples taken were analyzed for total extractable hydro-carbon residues (THE) . The chemical analysis test results indicated no measurable hydro-carbons.

  1. 2010 Fire Season

t is hard to believe that the start of the 2010 fire season is only a few days away - Thursday, April 1st.  Forest Fire Suppression is part of Timberlands ISO14001 EMS Program. Forest fire Prevention and Suppression is also required under the Wildfire Act and related Wildfire Regulations. During early March Ron Sorensen updated the Coulson Group Fire Preparedness Plan. The plan covers all planned timber harvesting and road construction operations.  Basic Forest Fire Suppression refresher training is in the works for April and May.  All logging and road construction crews must have annual re-currency training to be ready for a fire. The training consists of a fire theory review and hands on fire drill using fire tools, pumps with hoses and water. Either Ron Sorensen or I will be conducting the training. The logging manager and supervisors will advise logging and road construction crews of date and time for the refresher fire training.
