Jan, 2010 Volume 10-151

H

ere we are one month into 2010 and although there is some improvement in the lumber markets, there hasn’t been anything dramatic.  The Canadian dollar and its rise to parity with the US dollar is stifling any real gains in Canadian exports including lumber.

CML and CSL continue to run on a one shift level.  We have been producing some very nice wood from the logs supplied by Gary and Coulson Forest Products.

CML has dropped our Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification and has gone to Pan European Forest Council (PEFC) which is a world wide forest certification organization.  CML has done this due to a lack of available FSC logs.  The PEFC certification allows us to use both Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) logs, which are available on the open market.  PEFC is a credit system and we have considerable credits built up from previous log purchase.

Safety as always is Job #1 and although we had a fairly good year in 2009, there were still some accidents that could have been prevented.  Slips, falls and strains, in most cases, are main causes of accidents that can be prevented with just a couple of seconds of thought before taking on a task. Always be aware of your surroundings, pick up tripping hazards, get help with heavy objects and call your supervisor if you are unsure of anything.  If we all work together we can make 2010 the best year ever!  Until next month please work safe and play safe.

Text Box: Remember - Safety is a way of life
