ur engineering group is continuing with on going work on the areas where we are logging in TFL 54. Discussions continue on how much of a role Coulson Forest Products will have in TFL 54 going forward. Until this is completely resolved, all longer term plans for engineering are on hold.
We did get one large issue thrown at us by the Provincial government last week when they provided us their guidelines on the protection of a nest and habitat for a nesting pair of northern goshawks near our proposed Matleset development area in TFL 54. The proposed protection area impacts our planned logging much more than we originally thought. We have considerable work to do to develop a plan which will be economically viable for logging but still afford protection to these birds.
Coulson engineers and contract biologists found the nest site last fall when were working in the area. Northern Goshawks are on the rare and endangered species list. They exist on Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands. It is estimated that there are only 350 breeding pairs left so each nest site is important. Goshawks do not like disturbance while raising young. They also need an old growth closed canopy to do their hunting and food gathering. Those two issues indicate why they are not easily mixed with logging and road construction.
In addition to that we are looking at Toquart and Cataract and making our long term plans to return to those areas next fall with road construction and logging.
We do not anticipate having spring planting program. For the time being, our forestry side remains very quiet this year.
