t this time of the year it is always nice to speak of all the accomplishments of the year. This year, survival is success.
The Coulson logging group has managed to fulfill its task in keeping Coulson Manufacturing in fibre. It has been a challenge for us to find wood that matched market needs. We have managed to do that relatively well. If at any time the market had strengthened, Coulson logging would have been able to respond to increased demand very quickly. We were poised, but the need never came. In 2008 we produced 203,000m3. This year which has been basically a flat market, we produced 85,000m3 and have been operating at about 30% all year. We are finishing the year with high grade cedar in an effort to help the mill meet its market opportunity. The mill has an order file for clear product.
One of the new tools this year was Canadian Aircrane and their Skycrane. We were able to develop several blocks that met their capabilities nicely. Thanks to them for working very hard on the last project and overcoming the weather and aircraft maintenance which put them to the test.
Another new tool used was the small log barge, Makah, owned by Humphries Tug and Barge. It has enabled us to minimize booming ground size and value loss due to log damage. It is working well, so far. We haven't had many rock complaints this year.
2010 may be similar to this year; we will log to the Coulson Manufacturing order file. We will have about 15,000m3 on the ground to start the year, heavy to standard cedar. Our logging plan next year has more hemlock than this year.
It is amazing to me, that this company continues to look forward with a positive focus. Thanks to all for the commitment. It is my hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Special thanks to my crew for their effort and commitment.
