O

ctober, and it still feels like summer.  This has to have been one of the longest, hottest summers ever.

CML/CSL is still operating but it is becoming more of a challenge to sell the lumber being produced.  Clears and low grade are still selling fairy well but appearance and standard grades are very slow.  The standards and appearance go into the U.S. for fencing, decking and other outdoor construction.  These things are built in the spring and there isn’t much appetite to hold inventory at the distribution yards over the winter.  There is concern about supply going forward so we are hoping to get sales because of that.

We have been getting our logs delivered by a 3000m3 barge that Gary has found.  This is a better way for us with very little damage being done to the wood.  This will mean better recovery in the mill.

Safety is Number One at the milling operations and unfortunately, we have had a couple of strains that could easily have been avoided.  Always, get help when lifting heavy objects.  If it looks too heavy then it is.  Get help and use proper lifting techniques.  If you have any doubts or questions talk to your supervisor.

Until next month please work safe and play safe.

On September 21, ‘09, a barge of logs was dumped in front of CML
