Feb, 2009 Volume 09-142

By John Kuch, ManagerMill Report

January and February 2009 are now in the books and CML/CSL is still running. March is when Spring arrives and hopefully, it is also when the markets for Cedar will arrive.

The first 2 months of 2009 have been a struggle. We are trying a number of different products and log types hoping to find something that will work in these depressed markets. All the crews have done a good job with all the different things we are trying.

We have cut hemlock for the past six weeks and are now going on to cedar. We will be doing a different cut on cedar then usual to try and target things that are selling. We will be evaluating the cuts day by day and making changes to fit the order files.
Until things turn around, this will be the way we have to operate. We need to be ready to change our cutting to fit the orders and try not to build inventory in slow items.

The uncertainty is stressing on everyone, but we need to stay focused on our jobs and still put out the quality product we are known for. We need to do this safety, because safety is still number one.

Every month gets us a month closer to the end of this global mess and when we do get to the end; companies like the Coulson Group will still be here stronger and better than ever.

Until next Month please work safe and play safe.
