We are now well underway in 2009 with some positives ahead of us, believing that the worst is behind us.
The lumber markets are somewhat stable and the end users have no inventory in their lumber yards, specifically Western red cedar. We have been trying different species at CML and continue to diversify our lumber markets, but we have found that the reputation that our Manufacturing facilities have in the WRC market is very strong and we are getting very good support from those customers. We will be going back cutting cedar in March and while we may be somewhat curtailed from 2008 production we will continue to operate.
This is good news for the harvesting side as we have started to build road down in Kennedy Lake and will be hauling logs in March to the Mill.
As we have all heard about the wildfire devastation in Australia, I would like to commend the crews of C-FMAY and C-FCLM, as these two crews have been on the front lines of the fires in Victoria State and I have received many emails from grateful community members, acknowledging the excellent work that has been done to protect their homes.
We are continuing to prepare the Martin Mars for the upcoming fire season and I will have an announcement in the April newsletter.
We continue to pursue new opportunities that will add to the foundation of our businesses and strengthen our Group of Companies into the future.
