We are in the third week of the new year and our industry is still in turmoil. The annual Truck Loggers Convention saw many government representatives speaking of their ideas of how to survive the current economic stress. There were not many new ideas but lots of good intent.
It is the Coulson Group's yearend which has everyone working diligently over all 2008 project costs. To the accountants they are numbers but to the production side they are the final analysis of a whole year’s work. You get to compare actual numbers to budget projections and see where you won or lost. You analyze why we did better or worse and how to ensure we repeat the things we did right and what not to repeat. I remember the mistakes but all the things we did right are harder to recall.
Currently we are moving all volumes of cedar we have available on Kennedy Flats. CML sales have been moving enough lumber to require the fiber, for now. Plans for road construction are in the works. Stay tuned for start dates.
The flexibility of our Group accounts for much of our success but there is no maneuvering around the current economic mess. We will have to be patient as things reshape themselves.
