The year is going to end on a question mark in all areas. Are we going to have another election in February? Is the government going to stabilize our economy? Is North America going to start building houses again? We don't control any of this but sooner or later the stars will align in our favour.
2008 saw the completion of our traditional cut volumes and a transition to TFL54. TFL54 represents all of our 2009 logging. The southern area will be more active this year as we enter into the Rankin area and continue a large volume in the Indian Bay area. We are looking at possibilities in the market for 2nd growth as the short term of the cedar markets continues to be bleak. Mr. Kuch at CML is staying on top of the cedar lumber market to insure he doesn't miss any opportunities.
The final outcome of our last barge resulted in another claim from Interfor due to bundle breakage. As a result of having attended the barge loading and dumping I am left with only one option to ensure no future claims. I am reviewing the cost of converting to the 3/8 wire for all areas that require large volume barge movement.
There is a lot of wood moving on the island at this time, just not much cedar. The Canadian dollar is at a level that may help spark some interest in lumber markets. The reduced prime interest rate may help kick start housing construction. There are 2 key things ahead in January which may help the market, the US transition to their new government and the Canadian budget.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Thanks for all your support this year.
