The Coastal Forest Industry continues to wind down with daily announcements of curtailments in both the harvesting and manufacturing sector.
We have seen this before with weekly downward spirals in log and lumber prices that have been traditionally driven by over-supply in lumber markets. This, however, is different as the US struggles with an unstable banking industry and stock market, the ongoing war in Iraq, a Presidential election and no consumer confidence.
Our energy will be to focused on what we can control within our own operations.
This week we were awarded a three-year contract in Melbourne, Australia to provide fire fighting services with two S-61s. This is the same customer we have been with for the last three years and we have a tentatively planned start date of December 12th.
Last week we were honoured to host Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, at Chances Rim Rock.
This fund raising event was to celebrate the successful one-year anniversary of Rim Rock and to kick off "Hockey Central" in the Rim Rock Brew Pub as this year Rim Rock is one of the lead sponsors in the U17 World Championship starting Dec 27th to Jan 4th.
Gordie Howe is a true gentlemen who made sure he had an opportunity to chat with all guests that attended. The second day at lunch Howie Meeker was a surprise guest and the battle of Detroit and Toronto lived on.
