Firework has continued to consume the full time resources of the flying tanker. Hawaii Mars at the
present time continues to work fires in the Northern California area, operating from Lake Shasta. The
impact and assessments of our work remain very positive. Heavy smoke has hindered air operations for
much of last week, but winds are predicted to turn favorable and allow heavier aerial work. The
operating, maintenance and support teams have done a great job in flexibility and customer support in
maintaining readiness and effectiveness of our resource.
CFMAY started a 20 day renewable contract with the BC forest service this week in an initial attack role. She will operate with a crew of firefighters on board, tank, buckets, tools, fuel and maintenance trucks to be deployed anywhere in the province.
When the Hawaii Mars is on location firefighting the only way the engineers can do maintenance on the aircraft is from the wings. To rectify the problem a skiff was converted into a maintenance unit. The lift can now raise the platform so that the engineers can work on the aircraft from the water. Thanks to Andy Garcia and Scott Davidson for getting the skiff operational. It is now on site at Lake Shasta.

The Coulson Martin Mars Bomber Base & gift/souvenir shop is now open daily from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm until September 1, 2008.
Tour times of the Martin Mars are 10:30am, 11:30am 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm.
As both a homeowner and an aviation enthusiast, I would just like to say "Thank You" for a job well done!
My family lives in Redding, California; we got to see 'Hawaii Mars' on Shasta Lake, and she flew right over our house on many occasions. The sound of those 4 big Wrights is music to my ears!!! Plus, we all know the danger involved, and your crews went in time after time. Again, many thanks.........
