As we move into the last month of the 1st quarter of 2008 things have slowed down at CML. Western is still feeling the effects of the Steelworker's strike of last summer and has not been able to supply enough logs to Somass for them to run at full production. Consequently, this has meant the loss of the weekend cant shift at the mill and the loss of about 18 shifts per month of planer production. We are hoping that they can get logging soon so that this production returns to our facilities.
In the meantime we need to squeeze everything possible out of our own logs. Dave Ollech has moved to quality control and is working on both log recovery and grade recovery. Thank you to the crews of CML and CSL for being so cooperative with Dave.
As some shifts have been curtailed, people have moved to different jobs. It's important that we also do things safely so remember to refamiliaze yourselves with the job and review the JSB if you haven't done the job in a while.
