January, 2008 Volume 08-131

By Gary Collinge, ManagerLog Harvesting

It will be nice when things warm up. We finished 2007 with an on budget month, which keeps the mill in fibre and all of CFP calm, but January 2008 is shaping up like a winter of 20 years ago. Cold weather and snow are combining to cause delays on all fronts. Our projected fiber flow has been adjusted due to winter, imagine that. I was expecting a pineapple front when we wrote the budget.

Cataract continues along with no production issues as we are filling in with Equis fiber to keep on budget, but the mill is going short. I know Wayne will fill the void somehow. Factoring in snow delays we will be in Cataract until May.

Current weather will have long term impact on our fiber flow if it continues. Engineering is behind in Stewardson, but they are filling their days with Kennedy flats work. Our schedules are getting very tight everywhere, there will be a lot of stress hitting our annual targeted volumes.

I spent a few days at the Truck Loggers' Convention recently and the most positive thing there was the Coulson water bombers. They put on a hell of a show. I got to ride in the old girl on a demo flight, very exciting.

It is time for crews recurrent training and annual signoffs. Between Mayco Noel and Neil Nixon I hope to have it completed by the end of Feb. 2008.

We are moving anything that isn't tied down into Stewardson in preparation for March logging. We will begin getting DLS and roads repaired early in February.
