As promised we will now continue where we left off in the June issue with detailed instructions for installing and using Lavasoft's Ad-Aware
Installing Ad-Aware
- Go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com to download Ad-Aware. Save the file, aaw2007.exe, to your desktop. When the download is complete, double-click on the file.
- On the screen that says, "Welcome to Ad-Aware Setup..." click Next.
- On the License Agreement screen, check the "I accept the license agreement" checkbox and click Next.
- On the Destination Location screen click Next.
- On the Install to All Users Menu screen, accept the default of "Anyone who uses this computer" and click Next.
- On the screens that says "You are now ready to install Ad-Aware," click Next.
- When the program finishes installing click Finish.
- Ad-Aware will run an initial update and scan your computer for spyware. If any spyware objects are detected, select all objects (an easy way to do this is to right-click on an item in the listbox and choose Select All), then click Next and OK to confirm the removal of the objects.
- Occasionally Ad-Aware might ask you to reboot your computer to remove some items. Save any work you may have open in other programs and click OK and allow the computer to reboot.

Since I started this series of articles on anti spyware programs back in May of this year, I have had some time to work with AVG, a free and well known anti-virus program. AVG now has an anti-spyware program as well which we will have a look at in the next article.
